Michelle Merrill is the newest director at Cain Middle School. She began her teaching career as a band director in the Lewisville Independent School District in 2002, but has spent the last two years teaching a variety of musical disciplines, including band, choir, strings, music theory, and jazz, in the suburbs of Boston, Massachusetts. While in Boston, Mrs. Merrill also performed with the Gamelan Galak-Tika, an Indonesian music group dedicated to presenting work of the old Balinese masters as well as fusion works by new and upcoming composers. She also performs Indian Classical music on the bansuri (flute) with her husband, Steve Merrill, on tabla. As a saxophone player, Mrs. Merrill has played with the Dallas Wind Symphony and as a soloist at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in San Antonio, TX.
Mrs. Merrill is currently working on her Master's degree from Southern Methodist University, where she also received dual undergraduate degrees in Saxophone Performance and Music Education. She now lives in Garland, TX and both her and her husband are excited to be back in Texas, even though the Red Sox will always be better than the Rangers!
